A one-minute clinical primer from the Mayo Clinic showing the simplified two-step CPR protocol now endorsed by the American Heart Association. Designed to be memorised on a single viewing and shared widely. Ideal first video for anyone who has never seen CPR demonstrated.
Transcript
Key teaching points:
1. If you see a teen or adult collapse, call emergency services.
2. Begin chest compressions immediately — do not wait for paramedics.
3. Push hard and fast in the centre of the chest, roughly 100 compressions per minute, matching the rhythm of the Bee Gees song "Stayin' Alive".
4. Compression-only CPR is as effective as conventional CPR for untrained bystanders in the first minutes after cardiac arrest.
5. Continue until help arrives or the person responds.
