Key teaching points: 1. Get the baby out of the water and onto a firm surface; call emergency services immediately. 2. Open the airway by gently tilting the head back with one finger on the chin. 3. Give five initial rescue breaths — for a baby, seal your mouth over both nose and mouth and blow gently for one second each. 4. Begin chest compressions with two fingers in the centre of the chest, pressing down about one-third the depth of the chest, 30 compressions to 2 breaths. 5. Continue until the baby responds or help arrives. Do not stop to check pulse for more than 10 seconds.
